Volunteers and Interns

Non-artists as volunteers?
START is a global resource for those wishing to volunteer in support of humanitarian work and arts education, please just email and ask what the current vacancies are. We welcome all-rounders and pro-bono support if your professional skills lie outside of the arts (eg: finance or IT).

Interns
For young people START directly supports voluntary (travel expenses and lunch are offered) work experience training and internships in the arts industries of the Middle East and through exchange agreements within Europe and the U.S.

It is intended that these opportunities offer specific skills with a focus on key transferrable skills in arts administration, project management, studio technician and arts journalism.

One week work experience
Short work-experience placements are open to 16-18 year olds.
Based at the International Humanitarian City in Dubai the week will include preparing for and attending meetings with galleries, artists and schools.

Two month internship
To create opportunities for enterprising young people, START liaises with the DIFC Gulf Art Fair, galleries and museums to create curatorial, art journalism and education programme for interns typically divided as follows:

• 2 days business and entrepreneurial aspects of running a gallery
• 1 day with the DIFC Gulf Art Fair team working on international projects
• 1 day with START supporting arts workshops and working with other charities
• 1 day in a START studio creating work (tutorials and critiques will be part of the internship)

Sustainability
START will offer careers advice, resumé writing support and links to other internships internationally.

Placements are competitive and are awarded strictly upon submission of a personal statement and a resumé. If you would like to apply please email Sonia Brewin at sonia@startworld.org
